Somali Federal Government Militia Support Al Shabaab Fighters Attempting to Recapture Kismayo

June 29, 2013 – Breaking News: fighting erupted in Kismayo this afternoon where groups  are getting support from the federal government started attacking bases of the Jubaland state troops, where heavy fighting continued for hours.

The groups fighting in Kismayo came from Mogadishu three days ago with money that they have distributed to militia called government troops in Kismayo [each received $700.00] as encouragement to participate in fights against the Jubaland administration.

It is the second time in less than three weeks that individuals behind Hassan Sheikh’s government attacked JLS. The Jubaland administration wanted to remove groups causing security issues in Kismayo, but the AMISOM troops stopped that action. These groups yesterday attacked AMISOM troops with grenades and damaged military vehicles. This morning AMISOM troops captured and arrested the commander of the Kismayo militia. Unfortunately the Somali government condemns the arrest of the warlord Abas.

News received from unnamed source from Kismayo confirms that the fighting in Kismayo have  advanced and a total of 400 Al shabab militia are participating in the fighting beside the groups supported by the Somali government.

On the other hand, the government yesterday sent delegates for negotiation to the leader of the terrorist group Al Shabab Hassan Dahir Aweys where two days government announced his capture at the Hibin and Heeb regional administration.

The recent events have raised questions such as why the government are supporting the fight against Jubaland state by Al Shabab who wish to recapture Kismayo while the government issued statements denouncing  Al shabab. These two conflicting positions of the government undermine the official status of the state.
