Mohamed Ibrahim, a senior member of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has been arrested in Jijiga this morning. The motive for the arrest was not immediately clear but he was said to have been detained in Kebri Dehar a few months ago.
According to Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) social media outlets, the warrant for the arrest of Mohamed Ibrahim was written by Somali Regional Police Commander Mohamed Yare. but it is believed that the arrest of the ONLF officer was ordered by the acting president of the somali region Mustafe Cagajar.
This is not the first time ONLF officials have been arrested in the Somali region for no reason. ONLF leaders accuse Somali regional administration officials of seeking a reason for ONLF to return to war with Ethiopia.
The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), which has been at war with Ethiopia for 24 years, entered into a peace agreement with the Ethiopian government in 2018 without relinquishing its goal of gaining independence for the Somali region.
