Ethiopia: Semayawi (blue) Party Holds Demonstration in Addis

 

Members and supporters of Semayawi (Blue) Party held a demonstration on Sunday, 22 September 2013, at Janmeda in Addis Ababa. In their slogans on the occasion, the demonstrators demanded for the release of prisoners who remain under government custody after charged or sentenced with terrorist acts.

The demonstrators also demanded for justice and the respect of their freedoms.

Leadership of the Semayawi (Blue) Party said they wanted to stage the protest at Maskal Square but were prohibited.

Office of Addis Ababa Mayor, for its part said Semayawi (Blue) Party was not prohibited from staging demonstration in the city.

Owing to overcrowding attributable to light rail line under construction around Maskal Square, the Party was communicated to stage the demonstration at Janmeda.
