Ethiopia: PM to Appoint City Official to Head Justice Office

Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is to appoint Getachew Ambaye, deputy mayor of Addis Abeba, to serve as a minister of Justice, sources disclosed to Fortune.

Getachew was elected, for the first time, to the central committee of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM), in 2010, one of the four coalition member of the ruling EPRDF. The first minister to hold this position in post Derg Ethiopia was Mahetme Solomon, brother of the popular actress Jemanesh Solomon. Other ministers include Wordewold Wolde, Hareka Haroye, Assefa Kesito and Brehan Hailu, a fellow ANDM leader who has recently been relieved off his position by Hailemariam.

Before his advent to the Addis Abeba City Administration, Getachew had served his constituency in the Amhara Region as a legislator in the House of Federation.
