Ethiopia: Locals in Nigeria Buy 694,000 Birr Worth Bonds for Dam Construction

 

Jijiga, Apr 03, 2012 –  “Ethiopians residing in two cities of Nigeria bought bonds with over 694,000 Birr for construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

the Ethiopians living in Lagos and Abuja purchased the bonds at a meeting they held to discuss on the issue.

 

Ethiopian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ali Abdo said that Ethiopians at home and in foreign countries are striving towards success of construction of the Dam.

 

Ambassador Ali also lauded participation of the Ethiopians for the same purpose.

Participants of the meeting vowed to further strengthen support towards completion of construction of the Dam, the statement said.

The Dam being constructed in Guba Woreda of Benishangul Gumz State will have capacity to generate 6000MW electric power.

The cornerstone for the dam was laid by PM Meles Zenawi April 2, 2011.
